Private Guitar Instructor
Community Music School, Centerbrook, CT
Part Time: 8-20 hours per week (you set your availability, but students are currently ready-to-go on Mon & Wed 3-8 pm.)
Compensation: $38+ per hour of instruction
Summary: The Community Music School is seeking a guitar teacher to provide weekly private lessons to adults and children in a variety of musical styles (jazz, pop, rock, folk, and ideally also classical), starting Jan 26, 2026. Ability to also teach ukulele is a plus.
Specific responsibilities:
- To provide competent and professional musical instruction in guitar to students who enroll for weekly lessons.
- To arrange for a student recital at the end of the Fall Semester and the Spring Semester and to encourage and prepare students to participate in those recitals.
- To participate and offer opportunities for students to participate in at least one school-sponsored event per year (for example, the CMS Holiday Concert, Faculty Concert, Master Classes, Gala or other events);
- To effectively communicate with students and parents throughout the year with regard to recitals, events, teacher absences, etc.
- To attend faculty meetings once per year.
Faculty members report to the Executive Director, and are classified as W-2 employees (not 1099 independent contractors).
Qualifications:
· Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in music education or performance
· Minimum of two years as a private lesson instructor
· Strong organization and communication skills
· Strong knowledge of music pedagogy as it relates to your instrument(s)
· Belief in and commitment to the mission of the Community Music School
· Strong interest in faculty development and commitment to contributing to the positive development of CMS
