Job Summary
The Conservatory of Music at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Jazz Piano beginning with the 2025–26 academic year.
About
The Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, founded in 1865, is the nation’s oldest continuously operating conservatory, and the only major music school in the country linked with a preeminent liberal arts college. Students are enrolled in undergraduate programs leading to the Bachelor of Music in performance, jazz studies, composition, technology in music and related arts, and musicology. Oberlin also offers graduate programs leading to the Master of Music in conducting, the Master of Music in performance on historical instruments, the Master of Fine Arts in piano technology, as well as artist diplomas.

The Conservatory incorporated jazz into its curriculum in 1973 and began offering a major in jazz studies in 1988. Students can major in both jazz performance and jazz composition. The program prepares students for careers as professional jazz musicians and for advanced study in jazz.

Responsibilities
  • Individual instruction in principal and secondary applied study of jazz piano;
  • Instruction of courses in the Jazz Studies curriculum
  • Participation in auditions, examinations and meetings as scheduled;
  • Participation in faculty performances, recordings, recruitment and audition, etc.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrates excellence as a studio teacher, a broad knowledge of jazz piano literature;
  • Significant professional experience in such areas as jazz performance, scholarship, and/or pedagogy – as evidenced by recordings, publications, articles, or other pertinent materials.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree or commensurate experience.
