The Antique Piano Shop, Inc. is looking for a qualified/experienced Piano Technician to join our team of artisans and craftsmen. This opportunity is ideal for someone who is enthusiastic, creative, humble, and is able to think on their feet and problem solve in a deadline-driven environment.

We have a laid back atmosphere here, with a focus on great work ethic and high quality of completed work.

Basically, what we ask of everyone on our team is this:

-Show up to work, and be a responsible adult.

-We don't micromanage. We are here to support everyone, but everyone is held accountable for fulfilling their work responsibilities.

-Do your best to get along with everyone on the team. If you thrive on drama / toxicity / excuses - don't waste your time or ours.

If this environment sounds like a place you can see yourself succeeding, here are some of the "laid back" benefits:

-Casual dress/ wear whatever you are comfortable with working in, as long as it is not a safety hazard (very loose clothing while working with certain machines is not a good idea)

-A few minutes early/late - no big deal. The important thing is that the work gets done at a high level in a reasonable amount of time. We don't care about a few minutes here and there (as long as you don't take advantage of this laid back policy)

-Need time off? If you prove to be a valuable member of the team, we are willing to work with you and whatever your time off needs may be (again, as long as you don't take advantage of this laid back policy)

-Have a good idea about how things can get done more efficiently? All good ideas that are accompanied by good reasons to support them will receive full consideration, and credit for such ideas that are implemented will be acknowledged and recognized.

-W2 / 1099? What is your preference? We are willing to work with either, depending on your needs and ours.

-Healthcare benefits are available after 90 days for W2 employees.

Required skills for this position include:

Piano action rebuilding and regulation on both 19th and early 20th pianos
Working with soundboards, pin blocks, bridges, etc.
Working knowledge of down-bearing, bridge capping and notching, etc.
Willingness and capacity to learn how to apply existing skills to antique instruments
Willingness and capacity to teach any applicable skills to assisting team members who need direction in order to help the overall production schedule

We are not a typical piano repair shop, and a genuine passion for rare and historical instruments is a must in order to succeed here. Imagine the differences between working in a modern auto-body shop vs. restoring cars from the 1950’s. Many principles still apply in both scenarios, but the application of those principles can differ greatly depending on the project.

We have built an internal culture of hard-working people who make an effort to get along and work with each other towards a common goal. If you do your part to help maintain that culture, we as an organization will do our part to take care of you.

A Master Piano Technician who possesses all the required skills, proves the application of those skills, and proves success within our culture and organization can earn up to $80K/year. Starting salary/wages and the path/steps to that high level of work and pay must be agreed upon by you and us during the interview process to be fair to both parties.
