Job Overview:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Percussion Instructor to join our team at Spark Summer Clinics. Following two days of staff training, our four-day clinic is packed with technical skills, leadership activities, and community building. The percussion instructor will teach percussion fundamentals, run music rehearsals, and assist in the development of a short marching band show. They will also assist in full group sessions to build student identity and interpersonal skills. This is a fantastic opportunity for an energetic and passionate conductor to inspire young performers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach percussion fundamentals.
- Run music and visual rehearsals.
- Collaborate with staff to create a short marching band show.
- Provide individualized feedback and encouragement to students of varying skill levels.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Be vigilant and proactive in recognizing and addressing any safety concerns.
- Ensure proper warm-ups, technique, and hydration to prevent injuries.
- Lead team building and leadership activities and debriefs.
- Participate in staff training and meetings and implement feedback to improve the student experience.
- Assist with administrative duties, greeting parents and students, dorm move-in, nightly room checks, class and performance set up, and dorm move-out.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old by the start of the clinic.
- Music Education degree in progress or completed.
- Must be flexible and adaptable to changes.
- Able to work outdoors in summer heat for extended periods.
- Willing to work long hours in a sleepaway clinic setting.
- Previous experience as a percussion instructor.
- Strong background in music. Marching arts experience is a plus.
- Ability to successfully manage and engage with large groups of students in grades 5-12 of various skill levels.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- First aid training is a plus.
