General Music Teacher Job Description
Bethlehem Lutheran School is seeking a passionate and engaging part-time General Music Teacher to inspire our Kindergarten through 3rd-grade students with a love for music. This role will involve planning and delivering developmentally appropriate music instruction that incorporates Christian values and fosters creativity, musical skills, and appreciation. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of elementary music pedagogy, excellent classroom management skills, and a genuine desire to nurture the musical talents of young learners within a Christian framework.

Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Development and Instruction:
- Develop and implement engaging and age-appropriate general music lessons for Kindergarten through 3rd-grade students, aligning with national music standards and incorporating Christian themes and values where appropriate.
- Teach fundamental music concepts, including rhythm, melody, harmony, form, and expression through singing, playing instruments (e.g., Orff instruments, percussion), movement, listening activities, and creative exploration.
- Introduce students to a variety of musical genres and styles.
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse learning needs of students.
- Classroom Management:
- Create and maintain a positive, safe, and supportive learning environment conducive to musical exploration and growth, consistent with the school's Christian ethos.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure student engagement and participation.
- Spiritual Integration:
- Integrate Christian songs, hymns, and musical expressions of faith into the curriculum in a natural and age-appropriate manner.
- Model Christian values such as reverence, praise, and teamwork within the music classroom.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Communicate effectively with the Principal, classroom teachers, and parents regarding student progress and musical activities.
- Collaborate with other teachers to integrate music into the broader curriculum where appropriate.
- Participate in school events and performances as requested (e.g., leading songs for worship services, assisting with school programs).
- Resource Management:
- Care for and maintain music classroom equipment and resources.
- Communicate any needs for supplies or equipment to the Principal.
Qualifications:
- Valid teaching license/certification (preferred, but experience may be considered).
- Proficiency in playing basic musical instruments preferred (e.g., piano, guitar, Orff instruments).
- Familiarity with age-appropriate music activities, games, and learning techniques.
- Strong knowledge of foundational music concepts (rhythm, melody, pitch, basic instruments).
- Creativity in planning engaging lessons that keep young children involved and excited.
- Passionate about music and inspiring a love for it in young learners.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- A clear understanding of and commitment to the mission and values of a Christian elementary school.
- Ability to pass a background check and provide required clearances.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $27.00 per hour
