About the String Division: Oberlin’s Division of Strings is centered on the broad experiences of our faculty who provide students with instruction tailored to their needs and goals as a musician. Our strings division seeks to develop students’ talents to the highest musical and professional levels. Students in this division can pursue instruction and performance in cello, double bass, guitar, harp, viola, and violin. The string curriculum aims to develop students’ talents to the highest musical and professional levels. String students have been enormously successful in the musical world. Some hold positions in major orchestras and chamber ensembles, while others teach in music schools, universities, and conservatories around the world.
About Oberlin: The Oberlin Conservatory of Music, founded in 1865, is the nation’s oldest continuously operating conservatory, and the only major music school in the country linked with a preeminent liberal arts college. Students are enrolled in undergraduate programs leading to the Bachelor of Music in performance, jazz studies, composition, technology in music and related arts, recording arts and production, music theater, and musicology. Oberlin also offers graduate programs leading to the Master of Music in conducting, the Master of Music in performance on historical instruments, the Master of Fine Arts in piano technology, and artist diplomas.
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will recruit and teach a studio of undergraduate violinists, coach student chamber music, and participate in faculty performances. Active participation is expected in recruiting, as well as in departmental hearings, juries, auditions, and meetings. Qualifications
We seek an Artist-Teacher with a proven record of successful teaching and performance, and who shares Oberlin’s commitment to the highest standards in undergraduate musical training. An advanced degree in violin is desired but not necessary if an applicant has commensurate professional recognition.
Compensation
The appointment is to be filled at a rank and salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
