Delaware Valley University seeks a part-time Music Director for the Fall 2025 semester. This position will direct musical activities for the University and conduct student-community instrumental and vocal ensembles. The Music Director must have broad musical interests/background and share the university's commitment to providing opportunities for musical enrichment to non-music majors and members of the community. Principle responsibilities include directing the university's 60-member symphonic band, the jazz ensemble, and the University Chorus, supporting the recruitment of non-majors with a strong interest in music, and coordinating music for university ceremonies. Possible additional responsibilities include teaching music classes within the University's general education program. This position works 20-25 hours per week and is not benefits eligible.
Responsibilities:- Direct the University's Symphonic Band
- Direct the University's Jazz Band
- Direct the University Chorale
- Coordinate music for University ceremonies
- Hold office hours
- Work with Dean of Business, Arts and Sciences on learning outcomes assessments of University ensembles
- Work closely with faculty, staff, students, and community members to integrate the arts into the broader academic and co-curricular experience.
- Partner with Enrollment Management to identify prospective students interested in participating in the arts. Direct Music Scholarship program.
- Curate and manage a diverse calendar of music events, including concerts, exhibitions, workshops, and student and community outreach programs.
- Plan and execute music-related events, ensuring high-quality experiences for participants and audiences.
- Oversee the maintenance and inventory of music equipment and facilities, ensuring safety, accessibility, and optimal functionality.
- Partner with Development to foster relationships with local, regional, and national arts organizations and the broader community to enhance visibility and create partnership opportunities.Champion the arts within the university and the broader community, emphasizing their role in education, personal growth, and community building.
Qualifications:- A Master's degree in Music Performance, Conducting, Music Education, Music history, or related discipline
- 3-5 years of experience conducting a symphonic band/orchestra at the high school, university, professional or community level
- A strong commitment to working with non-music majors and community musicians
- Experience conducting a choral ensemble
- Willingness to strengthen working relationships with other regional arts organizations
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
