Job Summary/Basic FunctionJoin Our Team at Millersville University!The Tell School of Music in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences welcomes applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position beginning August 2026.About the position:Responsibilities include teaching, advising students, engaging in scholarly or creative work, and providing service to the department and university. Actual assignments will depend upon department needs. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in music education, including elementary and secondary general music methods and music theory fundamentals, all grounded in the Kodly approach. Responsibilities include supervising student teachers in K-12 placements, coordinating the Music Education area, serving as liaison to the College of Education, and representing the program on the Teacher Education Council. The role also involves organizing Music Education Advisory Board meetings. It may include additional teaching duties based on the candidates qualifications (e.g., applied lessons, class voice, general education music courses, early childhood music).A complete application comprises the following:- A Cover Letter summarizing how the applicants education and experience match the required qualifications of the position.
- A current Curriculum Vitae.
- A Teaching Philosophy that includes a discussion of the applicants experience in working with diverse populations of students.
- A summary of Scholarly and/or Creative Activity Plan outlining a 3-5 year agenda involving undergraduate students.
- Copies of registrar-issued unofficial transcripts for all degrees conferred and in progress (the successful candidate will be required to provide registrar-issued official transcripts from the issuing institution(s) directly to the Provosts Office by the start date).

One of the masters degrees must be in music education or a closely related field (Music Performance, Conducting, Music Pedagogy, Curriculum & Instruction with vocal/instrumental focus).
- Kodly Pedagogy Certification from an OAKE-endorsed program or the Kodly Institute, Liszt Academy (Hungary), or a masters degree with a Kodly Pedagogy emphasis.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience teaching public school general music in K-12 settings using the Kodly approach.
- Knowledge of additional pedagogical approaches such as Orff Schulwerk, Dalcroze Eurhythmics, and Gordons Music Learning Theory.
- Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and working with diverse student populations.
- Ability to supervise and mentor student teachers across K-12 vocal and instrumental settings.
- Ability to teach Language of Music (music fundamentals) according to the Kodly Concept.
- Capacity to serve as liaison to the College of Education.
- Proficiency in functional piano to support classroom instruction.
- Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
- Successful interview.
- Successful teaching demonstrations.
- Successful completion of three background checks.
Preferred Qualifications- Evidence of 3 years of K-8 public school general music teaching experience.
- Ability to teach applied voice lessons.
- Ability to teach general education music courses such as Early Childhood Music, Music and Culture, and Popular Music.
- Evidence of successful teaching at the college or university level.
