DESCRIPTION Otterbein University is in search of an Associate Director, Marching Band within the department of Music. This is a full-time, exempt position working 40 hours per week, 12 months a year.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
40% Implements a recruitment model for the Marching Band program; conducts research on Ohio high school marching band programs; sets enrollment targets for new marching band members; establishes and maintains relationships with high school band directors in central and greater Ohio; maintains knowledge of all Otterbein bands, orchestras and ensembles; represents the University at selected high school visits, college fairs and day/night programs; supports marching band and music recruitment events and programs, including auditions; maintains frequent contact and relationships with prospective students, parents, and other constituent groups;
25% Serves as an admission counselor; works with the admission department to understand admission and financial aid requirements; learns recruitment messaging; presents and discusses admission requirements with students, parents and visitors to the campus seeking information and assistance; gives individual, small and large group presentations; follows up on general inquiries from student, parents and high school counselors relative to general information about the University marching band and audition process;
20% Supports Marching Band Director as needed; runs rehearsals in the Director's absence and manages the front ensemble when needed; supports Marching Band experiences as needed to develop a strong retention culture in the band program;
10% Program/Event planning and implementation; Supports on campus visit and event programs;
5 % Other duties as assigned; QUALIFICATIONSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree required. The successful candidate will have experience as a marching band director or associate director at the high school or college level, and will possess knowledge and skills to manage the front ensemble. Ability to work with diverse student populations desired. Must have ability and willingness to travel. Understanding of the university admission process desired. Must have strong customer service skills and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Leadership and project management experience desired.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Competency in oral and written English (including proper English grammar). Competency in basic math. Must possess the ability to use general office equipment including office PC. Must be able to travel extensively throughout the state of Ohio with particular emphasis in one geographic area with some travel out-of-state; must be able to spend prolonged periods of time working out of an office PC; [must be able to see to process work that the position is responsible for completing;] must be able to work under deadlines and with interruptions. Must be able to meet regular and predictable attendance standards. The preferred candidate will have skill in managing electronic audio equipment and sound reinforcement, including working with software such as Ableton or Mainstage.
