Job Title: Piano Instructor - Community Music Academy
Position Overview
The Music Department at Northeastern State University seeks a skilled and dedicated Collaborative Pianist/Coach to work with undergraduate music students. This part-time position involves providing musical accompaniment and coaching to students, enhancing their performance skills, and supporting their academic and artistic development. The Collaborative Pianist/Coach must be available on campus a minimum of 2-3 days per week.
Key Responsibilities
- Weekly Coaching Sessions: Conduct 30-minute coaching sessions with up to 10 students per week, focusing on repertoire preparation, interpretation, and performance techniques.
- Accompaniment: Attend and accompany students during their 30-minute applied lessons, providing musical support and guidance.
- Studio Class Participation: Provide accompaniment for the weekly voice studio class held on Friday afternoons.
- Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with students and faculty to coordinate schedules and address any musical or logistical concerns.
- Professional Development: Stay informed about current trends in collaborative piano and participate in relevant professional development opportunities.
Qualifications Required:
- Master's degree in Piano Performance, Collaborative Piano, or a closely related field
- Strong sight-reading skills and proficiency in a wide range of musical styles and genres
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students and faculty
- Ability to manage multiple schedules and commitments efficiently
Preferred:
- Demonstrated experience working with vocalists as a collaborative pianist, particularly in an academic setting
- Familiarity with the repertoire and performance practices relevant to undergraduate music students
Compensation
- Stipend: $4,000 per semester
- Schedule: Approximately 10-12 hours per week
- On-Campus Requirement: Minimum of 2-3 days per week, scheduled in coordination with student and faculty availability
