- JOB DESCRIPTION

This is a professional position responsible for teaching private and group lessons to students enrolled in the Music Preparatory Division, participating in division activities, and supporting all areas of the division. Responsible for evaluating progress of students, preparing students for performance, and encouraging students in their music studies. May have additional responsibility of organizing and leading youth ensembles. Works under moderate supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Reports to the Director, Music Preparatory Division.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor's degree in music or music education is preferred.
Proficiency in playing an instrument and an understanding of pedagogy methods is required. Previous teaching experience with students of varying ages and skill levels is required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Plans and executes engaging lessons, including technique, repertoire, and music theory.
- Fosters a positive and encouraging learning environment.
- Assesses and monitors students' progress and provides constructive feedback.
- Prepares students for performance, recitals, and auditions and encourages students in their music studies.
- Communicates effectively with students and their parents/guardians regarding progress and practice expectations.
- Participates in division activities such as teacher meetings, fundraisers, registration and recruiting assignments.
- Supports all areas of the division and demonstrates commitment to the long-term development of the division.
- Liaises with area music teachers to recruit new students.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assists with special projects as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
