Assistant Professor - Associate Director of Bands / Director of Athletic Bands
Job Summary
Indiana State University is seeking an Assistant Professor - Associate Director of Bands/Director of Athletic Bands to help maintain and expand the athletic bands program. The Associate Director of Bands/Director of Athletic Bands will serve as Director of the Marching Sycamores and Basketball Pep Band, teach Marching Band Procedures, and perform other duties as assigned. Additionally, the Associate Director of Bands/Director of Athletic Bands will assist in leading the band program through successful recruitment, teaching, administration, and leadership.
Qualifications
- Doctorate degree in music education, conducting, or a related music field required; ABD candidates will be considered, but the doctorate must be completed by the start date
- Demonstrated success in teaching marching bands and/or collegiate athletic bands preferred
- Public school teaching experience preferred
- Strong performance credentials and commitment to student success preferred
- Experience working with first generation college students preferred
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will play an active and visible role in the artistic and educational life of the Indiana State University School of Music. Responsibilities include:- Working directly with the Director of Bands, ISU Athletics, School of Music faculty members and staff, and other stakeholders at Indiana State University.
- Additional assignments may include Marching Band Procedures, music education courses, student teaching supervision, music theory or history classes, or applied teaching, as applicable to the candidate abilities and interests. Administrative duties will include managing recruitment events like Sycamore Marching Band Day, Music Career Day, and the All-Star Honor Band.
- The Associate Director of Bands must establish and maintain successful relationships with public school band directors throughout the region.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
