Job Summary/Basic FunctionDickinson College invites applications for a
Visiting Assistant Professor of Music. The term of the appointment is for the
academic year 2026-27.
The candidate should be an
interdisciplinary scholar in music and sound studies. While the specific area of scholarly focus is open, the candidate's teaching and scholarship should reflect the ability to make substantial and meaningful connections across the fields of ethnomusicology, historical musicology, and/or sound studies as well as to other departments or programs on campus.
The successful candidate will contribute
five academic courses to the department's offerings, including:
- one 200-level introduction to ethnomusicology course
- one or two 300-level interdisciplinary seminar(s) in music and/or sound studies
- two to three additional courses on topics designed for the wider undergraduate population (100- or 200-level), with a preference that one of those courses might satisfy current curriculum rubrics (Topics in Global Music; Music in Media, Topics in U.S. Music)
The Department is seeking outstanding candidates with the potential for exceptional teaching and research. Candidates must have the ability to create learning environments that are inclusive and welcoming to all students. The successful candidate will demonstrate commitment to teaching across a diverse range of sociocultural and musical perspectives. Some opportunities to cross-list courses in other departments are possible.
QUALIFICATIONS: 1) a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology, musicology, or related discipline (ABD considered); 2) evidence of imaginative and successful teaching at the collegiate level.
