As both a creative and Christian community, students at the Adams School experience deepened faith through the arts—creating, studying, and enjoying them together. The Adams School is comprised of 17 full-time faculty and over 30 adjunct and part-time faculty, of which 6 full time and 20 part time faculty teach in music. The Adams School offers four music degrees that are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music: Bachelor of Music in Music Education; Bachelor of Music in Performance; Bachelor of Arts in Music; Master of Music in Music Education; in addition to concentrations in Composition and Music in Worship; and minors in Music and Musical Theatre. Additionally, hundreds of non-music majors participate in the music program through choral and instrumental ensembles and Core music classes. About one third of the total Gordon College population is involved in music and arts programming.
The music program at Gordon College is one that emphasizes whole musicianship, rigorous musical and academic training, and provides a nurturing environment in which our students can fully realize their God-given potential. The undergraduate Music Education program at Gordon has had a 100% teacher placement rate for all graduates seeking positions for more than 20 years. The graduate Music Education program offers master's, post-baccalaureate and continuing education options providing an exceptional foundation for new teachers and the tools for experienced teachers to thrive in K–12 choral, instrumental and general music classroom and ensemble settings. Our graduates serve in the public, charter and private schools as music teachers, attend reputable graduate schools and conservatories for performance and music education, perform in professional orchestras, teach in private music studios, and work in the fields of music administration, music therapy and church worship.
