Director of Bands and Assistant/Associate Professor of Music
Simpson University invites applications for afull-time (12-month contract) position as our Director of Bands. As the Director of Bands, the successful candidate will be able to provideenergetic, servant leadership over the development and recruitment of newly created band ensembles that will include Simpson University'sinaugural marching band. The position will also provide leadership for wind and jazz ensembles. A significant element of this position willinvolve recruiting students to Simpson and its bands programs. As administrative faculty, the Director of Bands will also be expected toteach a limited number of courses based on departmental needs.
Qualifications:
- An earned doctoral degree inmusic preferred; master's degree with 18 or more graduate units in music will also be considered.
- Wind, brass, and/or percussionspecialist with knowledge of instrumental music, arrangement, and band presentation.
- Evidence of excellent band pedagogy andmethods.
- Experience in recruitment for band and music programs is essential.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, andholidays.
- Experience teaching music recording and computer music technology, or professional experience in the recording industryis a plus.
- Experience working with a diverse student population and a commitment to inclusion and equity.
- A personalcommitment to Christ and faith integration at a Christian liberal arts institution is essential.

Essential Functions:
- Provide effective administrativeleadership over bands programming for the University.
- Directs all aspects of the Simpson University bands, includingrecruiting, arranging, program development, performance planning, and fundraising.
- Develop and recruit extensively for theinaugural marching band as well as the full band program that will also include pep, concert, and jazz band.
- Organize and conducteffective music ensemble rehearsals.
- Provide visionary leadership and coordination for music performances on campus and in thecommunity, including performances at university athletic events.
- Conduct private music instruction on individual's primaryinstrument(s).
- Student academic advising.
