Job Vision
As an A&R Representative, you are responsible for artist experience and roster development. You will create for artists a culture of care and transparency through education of standards and requirements, seamless onboarding, and collaboration on development and release strategies. You will curate a growing roster of relevant artists informed by careful research and client feedback while utilizing robust description tools to showcase artists and move clients intuitively through the browse and discovery process.
Core Duties & Responsibilities
Roster Development

Research licensing and cultural music trends
-
Listen, watch, and share music and licensing trends to better understand client needs
-
Utilize data to inform new artist signs and existing artist development
-
Use informed research data to find and sign new, relevant artists
-
Reach out and clearly communicate Musicbed benefits and intentions
-
Negotiate contracts
-
Gather ownership data and assets
-
Utilize existing project management system to organize tasks and onboard new artists
-
Help develop, support, and release music from existing artists
-
Organize, prepare and schedule artist song and album releases
-
Use research data to keep artists up to date on current licensing trends
-
Develop collaborative release strategies with artists to capitalize on external momentum
-
Gather and organize song data
-
Review and organize all assets (song files, photos, bios, lyrics) for release and procure any missing assets from artists
-
Tag music accurately and relevantly using pre-existing tools and terminology when necessary
-
Assign appropriate ownership splits, Performance Rights data, and point of contact for each song
-
Communicate and negotiate clearances for songs with outside collaborators
-
Look for and share new data tools and/or processes that can elevate song clarification

Artist Submissions

Listen to incoming artist submissions

Compare against demand and existing assets to determine approval or refusal

Clearly communicate in either instance
Artist Communication and Support

Maintain relationships with existing artists through regular communication:

Standard music releases

Release strategyplanning

Day to day questions, education, and support

Tour / visit schedules

Placement celebrations

Life events

Misc. communication touch points

Availability for minimal travel
Client Support

Be a resource for the Client Support and Sales team:

Song suggestions as needed
-
Audio technical issues
-
Administrative, contract or clearance issues
-
Build public and private playlists that meet current marketing initiatives as needed
-
Collaborate with Sales and Licensing team members to answer TV/Film Music Supervisor requests
Team Communication

Meet with team, department or project leads as necessary for artist releases
-
Report progress to A&R Manager via Project Management System
-
Meet with VP of A&R and/or A&R Manager regularly to ensure goal and priority alignment
-
Meet with VP of A&R and/or A&R Manager as needed to eliminate roadblocks or clarify tasks
-
Brainstorm, problem-solve, dream, and share ideas on systems and processes, roster development, and communication topics to increase team efficiency, remove barriers and elevate the effectiveness of the A&R Team and Company
Experience and Skills

Experience in a client or customer-facing environment
-
General knowledge/familiarity of music and musical tastes and trends
-
Contract negotiation and sales experience
-
Familiarity with project management and CRM software
