Position Summary:
The Department ofMusic, Theatre and Dance is collecting application materials for a one-year(2026-2027) full-time academic yeartemporary faculty teachingopportunity (with the possibility of appointment in subsequent years)beginning August 19, 2026 in the area ofStudio Voice Instruction andTheatre/Music Instruction. The ideal candidate would teach studioinstruction in voice and classes in generaleducation, majors class ingeneral theatre or music, and/or specialized majors classes inmusical theatre. We are especially interested incandidates committed tosupporting the success of diverse student groups, includingfirst-generation and underrepresented students.
Minimum Qualifications:The minimum education requirement forappointment to this position is a Master of Arts in Theatre, Masterof Fine Arts in Theatre, or aMaster of Music. The successful candidateshould have demonstrated ability to teach studio voice instructionin the area of musical theatre.The successful candidate should provideevidence of their commitment to or experience promoting andfostering a learning environment that issupportive of individuals from diversebackgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous teaching experience at the university level ispreferred. Keyboardskills and the ability to accompany students in variousmusical theatre styles are preferred. Ability to teach in areasbeyond studioinstruction is preferred.
Responsibilities: Thislecturer position carries responsibilities in the areas of studiovoice instruction, primarily focused on music theatre styles andrepertoire, as well as additional teaching assignments based on thecandidate’s strengths, background, and the needs of the department. Thecandidate should mentor students in the development of healthy,sustainable vocal technique, musicianship, stylistic versatility, andexpressive performance practices appropriate to contemporary andtraditional musical theatre. Instruction may include individual and groupvoice lessons, studio classes, and related coursework supportingvocal performance and musical preparation.
Faculty collaborate withcolleagues to support student learning across classroominstruction, productions, and other departmental and school collaborations. Otherresponsibilities may include advising, recruiting,curriculum development, professional affiliations as appropriate, and other duties asassigned. This is a full-time position with a teachingload of 15 weighted teaching units per semester. Course assignments typically includegeneral education and/or majors classes within thecandidate’s teaching ability and may include Studio Voice Instruction, ContemporaryStyles for Musical Theatre, Studio Voice Instruction,Acting for Musical Theatre, Contemporary Styles in Musical Theatre, Cabaret andShowcase, Fundamentals of Music for Musical Theatre, MusicTheory, Aural Musicianship, music direction or direction of departmentproductions, Directing, Directing II, Text Analysis, Introduction toActing, Foundations of Drama, Foundations of Acting, Theatre History,or other courses aligned with the candidate’s expertise anddepartmental needs. Teaching assignments are based upon the qualifications ofthe individual and the needs of the department.
