Northshore Christian Academy is a non-denominational Christian school located 27 miles north of Seattle, Washington. Teachers at Northshore Christian Academy are empowered to lead classrooms grounded in the truth of God’s Living Word. Our Music Teacher is expected to integrate Biblical truth into music instruction, guide students in understanding music as a gift from God, and nurture Christlike character through creativity, teamwork, discipline, and excellence in performance. Our Teachers are passionate about engaging students in an active, dynamic learning environment that accommodates diverse learning styles and integrates current technology into instruction. Our Music Teacher fosters musicianship, vocal and instrumental development, music appreciation, and a love for worship through a comprehensive music program.
Responsibilities
- Deliver daily general music instruction, including vocal music, foundational instrumental exposure, music theory, rhythm, movement, and music appreciation, and manage assessments, evaluations, performances, reporting, conferencing, and record-keeping for each student.
- Plan, implement, and adapt music curriculum to meet school-adopted learning objectives, ensuring all students achieve reasonable mastery through instruction, rehearsal, assessment, and re-teaching as needed.
- Direct and prepare students for school concerts, chapel presentations, and special events throughout the academic year.
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding curriculum, rehearsal expectations, performance schedules, and student progress.
- Maintain daily lesson plans in an accessible format for substitutes, including a current substitute file with schedules and classroom procedures.
- Supervise and guide educational assistants and/or volunteers supporting the music program.
- Plan and conduct parent-teacher conferences and foster positive working relationships with staff and families.
- Participate in staff development, in-service training, preparation, and special programs according to the school calendar.
- Maintain an organized and engaging classroom environment aligned with the educational process and current units of study.
- Uphold classroom discipline and student management in accordance with school policies.
- Submit weekly lesson plans to the Principal.
- Follow school policies and procedures in administrative and educational matters as directed by the Principal, Head of School, and School Board.
Spiritual Leadership Requirements
- Born again Christian walking faithfully with God, has a personal testimony, and lives a consecrated life devoted to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
- Regular attendance and involvement in a local church
- Continual growth in maturity through daily prayer, Bible reading, witnessing to others, and leading a lifestyle of repentance and forgiveness
- Bears the Fruit of the Spirit in relationships and conduct
Qualifications
- BA in Music Education, Education, or related field
- Washington State Teacher Certificate (or other State Teaching Certificate) preferred
- ACSI Teaching Certificate (or willing to obtain an ACSI Certification within one year)
- 1–2 years of music teaching experience preferred
Skills & Abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in vocal instruction, basic instrumental instruction, and classroom management
- Ability to organize rehearsals, manage performances, and oversee music materials and equipment
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities
- A deep passion for musical and educational excellence
- Comfort and confidence in discussing God’s Word and integrating faith into music instruction
