ABOUT THE POSITION: The Department of Music, Theatre, and Film at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) invitesapplications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music, Director of Bands position for the 2026-2027 academic year with potential forrenewal. We seek applicants who welcome the challenges and rewards of serving on a diverse and artistically talented faculty of a growingdepartment, located in a dynamic and thriving arts community.
Responsibilities: Provide effective leadership as the conductor of theUAH Wind Ensemble, coupled with a recruiting component integral to the growth of the department. Additional responsibilities includeinstruction in the areas of conducting and music education, and overseeing the leadership of the university athletic bands and instrumentalarea. The regular teaching load is three courses per semester. Faculty are expected to actively engage as leaders and collaborators inscholarly and creative endeavors within their research professions and the local community.
Qualifications: D.M./D.M.A. in Wind BandConducting and an ability to effectively rehearse/conduct wind ensemble/band, as well as highly effective instruction inundergraduate/graduate courses related to conducting and music education. Ideal candidates should have experience in college teaching and aproven track record of successful scholarship related to wind conducting, effective rehearsal technique, and collegiate ensembleperformances showcased in concerts, conferences, and festivals. ABDs will be considered; however, all requirements for the doctoral degreemust be completed by August 1, 2026, to be appointed at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor.
