We are seeking a passionate and skilled Church Organist to enrich our worship services and community events through good musical leadership. Responsibilities
- Perform traditional and contemporary hymns, psalms, and other sacred music on the church’s pipe or electronic organ and piano during worship services, ceremonies, and special events
- Collaborate with rector, choir director, and musicians to select appropriate music that aligns with liturgical themes and service plans
- Attend weekly rehearsal with choir members to ensure cohesive performances
- Maintain the organ’s functionality through routine tuning, cleaning, and minor repairs or coordinate with professional technicians as needed
- Adapt performances to accommodate different service formats, including weddings, funerals, and community gatherings
- Foster a welcoming atmosphere by engaging with congregation members and encouraging participation in musical aspects of worship
Experience
- Proven experience as a church organist or similar role with a strong background in sacred music performance
- Demonstrated ability to play the organ proficiently across various musical styles.
- Familiarity with Episcopal church liturgy, hymnody, and worship service structure a plus.
- Knowledge of organ maintenance basics or willingness to collaborate with technicians for upkeep
- Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with clergy, choir members, and congregation.
