St Peter’s is looking for someone who loves God, people and music, and who values both tradition and creativity. A strong candidate will be skilled in organ and piano and will be experienced in conducting chancel and bell choirs. A familiarity with liturgical worship and hymn singing is important. A music degree is desirable.
To enhance its worship services, in early 2024 St Peters installed a refurbished 30 year old, 19 rank Southfield Pipe Organ. The congregation anticipates that its next Minister of Music will continue to create joyful and uplifting sounds with this marvelous instrument.
A strong candidate will:
- be skillful on the pipe organ and piano
- possess a knowledge of liturgy
- be experienced with church music and anthems
- have had success in directing vocal and bell choirs
- demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills.
The time commitment averages 20 hours/week; the salary is $30,000/year. Paid vacation time is offered.

About St. Peters
St. Peter’s Lutheran Church is a vibrant congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) located in the town of Harwich, MA. We gather weekly for robust and music-centered worship, and we have committed ourselves to serving our neighbors in the congregation, the greater Lower Cape community, and at the national level. St. Peter’s has been a Reconciling in Christ Congregation since 2016 and extends a welcome to members of the LGBTQI+ community. Our Just Peace Team advocates for social justice, and we align ourselves with other nonprofit organizations that are working to serve the needy and bring justice to the marginalized. In collaboration with the Lower Cape Outreach Council, we are home to the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry. In the fall, the entire congregation and many generous friends hold a Cranberry Fair whose proceeds go to serve at-risk youth on Cape Cod.
We are a congregation of natives and “washashores”; life-long Lutherans, and many other Christian denominations; we are retirees and young families; we all love this beautiful place in which we live, and we are grateful to have this church family to which we belong. We believe God’s love extends to all and strive to be active in our welcome to long time members and newcomers alike!
