Job Posting: Orchestra Teacher (Grades 3–9)
Location: St. George, UT
School: Vista School
Vista School is seeking a passionate, high-energy Orchestra Teacher to join our "String World." We are looking for an educator who can transform students from beginners into "musical champions" while fostering a culture of leadership, creativity, and discipline.
Position Overview
This role oversees a comprehensive string program ranging from 3rd-grade introductory classes to an audition-based Advanced Orchestra for 9th graders. You will be responsible for teaching violin, viola, cello, and bass, guiding students through foundational techniques and sophisticated ensemble performance. Our goal is to hire an accomplished musician
Key Responsibilities
- Foundational Instruction: Introduce 3rd-grade students to the string family, focusing on proper set-up, bow holds, and clef reading. Promote Chamber-style leadership, allowing students to lead music.
- Ensemble Development: Lead 3rd–9th grade ensembles using a mix of Strictly Strings, Suzuki Repertoire, and String Calisthenics.
- Advanced Pedagogy: Prepare older students for rigorous auditions (3-octave scales, arpeggios, and solo work) and high-level performance.
- Innovative Performance: Teach and train middle school ensembles to lead and perform as a chamber orchestra without a conductor. (Advanced, Platinum and Chamber Orchestra’s)
- Community Engagement: Prepare students for performances at school concerts, local St. George music festivals, and special events.
- Instrument Care: Educate students on the maintenance and proper sizing of stringed instruments to ensure long-term success. Manage Vista’s instrument inventory and professional luthier relationship.
What You Bring to Vista
We are looking for a candidate who is more than just a conductor. You are a mentor and a builder who will bring:
- High-Octane Energy: You don’t just teach music; you build "rock star" confidence and high self-esteem in every student.
- Technical Mastery: A deep proficiency in teaching all four orchestral string instruments and a mastery of the Suzuki and String Calisthenics methods.
- Leadership Development: The ability to coach 6th–9th grade students to function as a team, teaching them the rare skill of leading an orchestra without a conductor.
- A Future-Focused Mindset: You understand that music is an investment. You will bring the discipline and audition-prep techniques (including breathing and memory tips) that help students reach a level of artistry capable of earning future high school opportunities and potential scholarships.
- Community Spirit: A desire to take our program "on the road," introducing students to the St. George area through traditional concerts and the creative art of busking. Ties with local musical groups are a plus.
Why Vista?
At Vista, we view music as a very real investment in a student’s future. Our charter was developed around three pillars - academics | arts | technology. You will have the opportunity to build a legacy, taking students from their very first notes in 3rd grade to advanced musical artistry by 9th grade. Join us in creating responsible, capable artists and exceptional performers.
