Job Summary
Wesley United Methodist Church is located in Georgetown, Delaware, which is the county seat of Sussex County. Average weekly attendance of 75. The church has a full-time pastor and actively supports local organizations and the work of the denomination at global, conference and local levels. Wesley UMC emphasizes Christian mission and education through small group ministries and outreach to the community through various feeding programs and facility rentals to service organizations. The music ministry is considered a vital part of weekly worship.
Duties
- Administer and coordinate the church music program in order to build faith devotion and understanding among the congregation.
- Sustain United Methodist traditions in music and singing while also broadening the worship experience through new and diverse Christian music styles
- Work with the pastor to plan worship services, including the use of scripture and sacred music.
- Direct monthly choir rehearsals.
- Recruit musical talent and find substitutes as needed during music staff absences.
- Communicate effectively with team members, clergy, and congregation to promote upcoming events and encourage active participation in music programs.
Requirements
- MUST be a proficient organist/pianist.
- MUST possess a technical understanding of the operation and maintenance of the piano and organ.
- Appropriate educational background and/or life experience with focus on choral music and an understanding of diverse, sacred Christian music styles.
- Church music program leadership - Preferred
- Experience in teaching vocal or instrumental music is highly desirable.
