Job DescriptionKey Responsibilities - Provide private music instruction through scheduled in-person lessons:
- 30-minute weekly lessons for 1-credit courses
- 60-minute weekly lessons for 2-credit courses
- Arrange and conduct a total of 12 in-person meetings per student each term
- Maintain regular communication with students and colleagues (minimum twice weekly)
- Fulfill instructional responsibilities in alignment with departmental and institutional expectations
- Adhere to syllabus policies, grading standards, and instructional practices as outlined in the Faculty Handbook (Section 9)
- Utilize official college communication channels, including Allegheny email
- Demonstrate a working understanding of FERPA and maintain student confidentiality
Compliance Requirements In accordance with Pennsylvania law, instructors may be required to obtain Act 153 clearances if their role involves working with minors (including high school students enrolled in courses). Employment is contingent upon successful completion of required background checks, including:
- PA Child Abuse History Clearance
- PA State Criminal History Check
- FBI Federal Criminal History Record
Qualifications - Demonstrated expertise in music performance and/or instruction
- Prior teaching experience preferred, particularly in one-on-one or applied lesson settings
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Commitment to inclusive teaching practices
