Position Description: Culver-Stockton College is seeking a Director of Athletic Bands. This is a full-time positionbeginning in the fall of 2026 and reports to the Director of Athletics. The successful candidate will serve as director of the "Thrill onthe Hill" Marching Band and Pep Band, and work with the Admissions Office to recruit fine arts students. While the position is open toany qualified candidate, preference will be given to candidates that can teach private lessons in either brass or percussion instruments.While the primary responsibility of this position is to grow and maintain the band, collaboration as appropriate with music departmentfaculty is expected and, if credentialed, some teaching of music courses is possible.
Responsibilities:
- The individual will primarily be responsible for developing and providing leadership for theMarching Band and Pep Band programs.
- Enter the “Thrill on the Hill” band in the Homecoming parade, Hannibal Band Day, and QuincyDogwood Parade along with such other parades as determined each year.
- Coordinate with the Director of Athletics to scheduleperformances at home football games and home basketball games as determined each year.
- Recruit students for the athletic bandsand fine arts areas, regularly contacting prospective students through a variety of platforms, setting up and attending area schoolvisits, helping to coordinate college visit days, and working in tandem with the college admissions and marketing offices for recruitmentefforts.
- Work closely with the financial aid office to coordinate scholarship offers for athletic band and fine artsprospective students.
- Maintain active engagement with student retention efforts and provides oversight of student workers.
- Ability to work effectively with students and colleagues and have a strong commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Performance,Music Education, or related field; Master’s or terminal degree preferred.
- A proven record of success in the marching and pepbands or ensembles, preferably at the collegiate level.
- Demonstrated success in recruitment and retention efforts.
- Experience teaching, with preference given to brass or percussion lessons.
- Experience in arranging music for winds andpercussion and writing marching band drills.
