Position Overview
The College of Music at RUA is seeking full-time Performance Faculty (open rank) for the2026/27 academic year. Appointments will be made at Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, or Assistant/Associate Professor level, depending onqualifications, experience, and professional standing.
We welcome applicants across all instruments and voice, with particularinterest in candidates specialising in violin, oud, guitar, and drums/Arabic percussion.
Key Responsibilities
Facultymembers will contribute to the delivery and development of a performance-focused curriculum. Responsibilities will include:
- Delivering one-to-one instrumental or vocal instruction
- Leading performance classes for mixed cohorts across instruments andvoice
- Coaching small ensembles and directing larger performance groups
- Teaching foundation-level courses, includingMusic Appreciation and Introduction to Careers in Music
- Contributing, where appropriate, to areas such as Music TheoryFundamentals and Aural Skills/Musicianship
In addition, faculty will be expected to contribute to programme development,student recruitment, and the broader academic life of the College as it is established and grows.
Candidate Profile
RUAseeks artist-educators who combine strong professional practice with a commitment to high-quality teaching. Ideal candidates willdemonstrate:
- A track record of professional performance and/or conducting
- Experience teaching at university levelusing structured syllabi and assessment approaches
- Ability to work across diverse musical traditions, including Western and Arabiccontexts
- Experience directing and coaching ensembles with varied instrumentation and ability levels
Fluency inEnglish is required.
Mandatory Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Music or equivalent professionalexperience
- Demonstrated professional performance portfolio
- Minimum of two years’ teaching experience at universitylevel
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD or DMA in Music or equivalent professional experience
- Arabiclanguage proficiency
- Experience leading diverse ensembles across musical traditions
- Experience in arranging music forvaried ensemble configurations
Compensation and Benefits
