Job Summary
We are seeking a passionate and talented Worship and Choir Accompanist to enrich our spiritual community through inspiring musical leadership. In this vital role, you will provide dynamic piano or organ accompaniment for worship services, choir rehearsals, and special events. Specific Duties
- Accompany congregational singing, choir rehearsals, and worship services with skillful piano or keyboard playing
- Collaborate closely with pastors, choir directors, and music leaders to plan musical selections that align with service themes
- Rehearse regularly with choir members to ensure cohesive performances during services and special events
- Assist in selecting appropriate music pieces, incorporating contemporary or traditional styles as needed
- Support the development of musical arrangements that enhance the overall worship atmosphere
- Maintain and tune musical instruments to ensure optimal sound quality during all performances
- Participate in special musical programs, community outreach events, and holiday celebrations to energize the congregation
- Build a bell choir (we will be getting a set of bells in Fall 2026)
Requirements
- Proven experience as a pianist or keyboardist in a church or similar setting, with a strong ability to accompany vocalists and ensembles
- Knowledge of diverse musical genres, including contemporary Christian music and traditional hymns
- Ability to read sheet music fluently and adapt to various musical arrangements quickly
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with clergy, choir members, and other musicians
- Flexibility to accommodate rehearsal schedules and service times, including evenings and weekends
- Basic understanding of theater principles is a plus, enhancing stage presence and performance energy
- A genuine passion for worship music and fostering an inspiring spiritual environment
Salary:
- $200/service
- $30/choir rehearsal
Year-round commitment:
- January through December - Sunday morning services
- September through May - Choir rehearsals
- Extra Services - Christmas Eve (2 services), Ash Wednesday, Lent (5 services), Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter
- Substitutes available for time off
- Average 8-12 hr/week w/travel time
