Goals: Music is part of the worship and prayer of the church. The Choir Director/Organist provides music to the praise and glory of God for all church services in cooperation with the Minister.
Accountability: The Session is the immediate supervisor of the Choir Director/Organist. The Session upon recommendation of the Pastor employs and/or discharges the Choir Director/Organist. Reports to Session via Clerk of Session. Takes suggestions from the Pastor, consults with the Pastor on an ongoing basis.
Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the Choir Director/Organist shall include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide music and conduct choirs at all scheduled services each Sunday as well as special services such as those of Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter services.
- Provide a ten minute musical prelude before beginning of all church services.
- Provide music, when requested, at all wedding rehearsals, weddings, and funerals held by the church, or any other specifically scheduled services.
- Help recruit new members for both choirs with assistance from current choir members.
- Select, catalogue, and maintain a music library for worship with the cooperation and assistance of the Session and other choir members.
- Advise the Session of organ and piano malfunctions.
Qualifications:
- Verifiable and demonstratable ability and proficiency with experience to play keyboard, piano and/or organ.
- Ability to select and adapt choral music to the situation.
Compensation: $5300 annually. The amount of additional payments for wedding rehearsals, weddings, funerals, etc are set by the Session.
Vacations: All requests reviewed by Clerk of Session. Choir Director allotted 4 Sundays of vacation per year.
Arranging Additional Time Off: Such time off must be arranged with approval of the Session, providing the Choir Director/Organist gives two weeks prior notice, a substitute is scheduled, and the choir/soloists are prepared. The Choir Director/Organist will be responsible for the substitute’s honoraria for periods of absence other than for approved vacations or sickness.
Termination of Duties: Termination of duties will require a four week notice from the Choir Director/Organist to the Session or from the Session to the Choir Director/Organist.
Pay: $5,300.00 per year
