Drum and Bugle Corps Coordinator
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Drum and Bugle Corps (DBC) Coordinator will fully oversee the development and regulation of the DBC. Primary responsibilities include recruiting students to attend Schreiner University with plans to participate in the DBC. Recruiting will involve travel to secondary schools, creation of promotional materials, and attending to student inquiries and documenting student interactions in Schreiner University’s recruitment management platform. The DBC Coordinator will also be responsible for organizing and running rehearsals, scheduling performances, and ensuring instrument/facility maintenance. Working with the Director of Schreiner Institute, the DBC Coordinator will ensure the success and well-being of each student participating in the Drum and Bugle Corps, while promoting the core values of Schreiner Institute and Schreiner University.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Program Development and Management – Continue to develop and implement the drum and bugle corps, including curriculum design, program structure, and long-term strategic planning. – Collaborate with the Schreiner Institute Director to ensure the program aligns with institutional goals and values.
- Recruitment and Retention – Actively recruit students for the DBC, including traveling to secondary schools, organizing auditions, promoting the program, and engaging with prospective members.
- Rehearsal and Performance Planning – Plan and conduct regular rehearsals, ensuring a disciplined and productive environment. – Design and coordinate all musical and visual elements for performances, including arranging music, choreographing drills, and overseeing uniform and equipment selection.
- Off Campus Event Coordination and Scheduling – Schedule and manage all aspects of performances, including local and regional competitions, parades, and community events. – Coordinate logistics for travel, accommodation, and other necessary arrangements for off-campus events.
- On Campus Event Coordination and Scheduling – Schedule, manage, facilitate, and collaborate with different departments on campus regarding different campus community events.
- Community and Public Relations – Act as the primary spokesperson for the DBC, representing the program at public events and building relationships with community partners. Promote the program through various media outlets and maintain an active presence on social media platforms.
- Instruction and Mentorship – Provide individual and group instruction to develop students’ musical and marching skills. – Mentor students, fostering a positive and inclusive environment that encourages growth and teamwork.
- Professional Development – Stay current with trends and best practices in drum and bugle corps and music education. Attend workshops, conferences, and other professional development opportunities as appropriate.
- Develop and manage the DBC budget, including equipment procurement and travel expenses
- Maintain inventory and oversee the maintenance and acquisition of instruments and uniforms.
- Other Duties as Assigned – Perform additional duties and responsibilities as required by the Director of Schreiner Institute to support the overall success and growth of the program.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in music
- Marching band instruction and planning experience
- Experience Leading and Assisting/Working with Band Programs and Directors
- Maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License
