Position Summary: The position of Liturgical Support at St. Dominic Villa is responsible for working with Villa staff in planning and implementing Eucharistic Liturgies, sacramental services, funerals, and other prayer services for the Villa Community
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
I. LITURGICAL MUSIC RESPONSIBILITIES
a. Coordinate, prepare, plan, and implement Eucharistic Liturgies, other sacramental services, and prayer services for the Villa Community; assist as needed with other liturgical events.
- Participate in a Liturgy Advisory Committee monthly to provide guidance, especially as related to specifically Catholic and Dominican liturgical rituals and protocol.
- Maintain awareness of liturgical standards established by the Church.
- In cooperation with the Villa Prioress, coordinate the community worship schedule, including the planning of liturgical celebrations based on the liturgical seasons, the liturgical calendar, and special events.
- Recruit and coordinate the scheduling of persons involved in liturgical ministries.
- Facilitate the preparation of General Intercessions at Eucharistic Liturgy celebrations as needed.
- Prepare binders with appropriate readings
- In collaboration with Villa Prioress, prepare and implement Remembering Service/Wake and Mass of the Resurrection/Funeral services for all Sisters who die at the Villa.
a. Coordinate the planning committee is convened at notification of a death.
b. Provide worship aids to the Villa for Sister participation.
- Prepare Service Music for all liturgical services.
- Work closely with the Book of Days and Today’s Liturgy resources to plan appropriate music.
- Find additional musicians to enhance Masses for special feasts and events.
- Provide musical rehearsals as needed.
- Work with Publisher and Sibelius software to create programs and resources for all seasons of the liturgical year.
- If unable to provide music for a liturgical service, Coordinator will find substitute musician.
II. COMMUNICATION
a. Villa prioress – Meet weekly with Prioress regarding all liturgical and musical services needed for the Villa Sisters.
b. Chaplain - Stay in regular communication with Villa chaplain for planning and coordination.
c. Campus Administrator – Coordinate with Campus Administrator as needed for facility space connected with this position.
III. ADMINISTRATION
a. Monitor annual budget in consultation with the Villa Prioress.
b. Keep a running inventory of the Choral and keyboard music used for services.
c. Maintain supplies necessary to run printers – ink, paper, folders, labels, etc.
d. Maintain a file for music and programs.
e. Provide music from Liturgy Office and additional resources to others as feasible.
IV. SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
Liturgy is central to significant holidays and holy days. Liturgical support provides the above resources at all events in consultation with the St Dominic Villa Prioress. These include:
- Daily Eucharist when it occurs.
- Sunday Liturgy
- Special Liturgies, such as Remembering Services and funerals, feast days, holy days, communal Penance and Anointing services.
- Holy Days of Obligation: Jan. 1 (Solemnity of Mary), May 18 (Ascension), August 15 (Assumption), Nov. 1 (All Saints), Dec. 8 (Immaculate Conception), and Dec. 25 (Nativity); Easter is always celebrated on Sunday.
- Special Dominican and Sinsinawa dates: Aug. 8 (St. Dominic), Nov. 4 (Father Samuel’s Birthday) and Feb. 23 (Fr. Samuel’s death anniversary).
If the above celebrations occur on a co-worker holiday or a regular day off, the Liturgical Support provider works the holiday and takes another day during the week to offset working on that day or provide for coverage of their responsibilities by another qualified person.
