Marshallton United Methodist Church
is seeking a part-time Director of Music to accompany worship on organ and piano, and to direct a small choir.
We are a small congregation seeking to re-vitalize worship, engage with our community, and diversify our congregation. We are seeking a creative and enthusiastic musician who can lead worship in a variety of musical styles.
The position may be fulfilled in one person, or divided into separate roles for accompanist and choir director. The position will pay at a rate to be determined by skillset and experience.
The Director of Music will:
1. Read music and be proficient in organ and/or piano, and in choral directing. The congregation has in its sanctuary: a Rodgers Trillium two manual electric organ, and an upright piano.
2. Provide musical accompaniment for one worship service Sunday mornings and for special services which may include Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunrise, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve.
3. Rehearse, direct, and accompany the sanctuary choir, currently seven members; and communicate program plans and rehearsal times with choir members.
4. Work collaboratively with the Pastor, choir members, worship team, and others to implement a program of music including favorite and new selections of music in both traditional and varied styles of music.
5. Select choir anthems, special music, and service music (prelude, offertory, postlude) for each service and provide these selections to Pastor and Church Administrator weekly, or in a seasonal plan.
6. Purchase and maintain the library of choral music and administer the music budget as set by the Leadership Team, and report to Leadership Team on tuning and maintenance of the organ and pianos.
7. Have first right to provide music for weddings, funerals, and special services scheduled in the church sanctuary at his / her established rate.
Pay: $13,000.00 - $16,000.00 per year
