SUMMARY: First Baptist Church (FBC) in Fayetteville, NC, is searching for a qualified applicant to fill the Music Director position. First Baptist Church is affiliated with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. We are an open congregation believing that all people are welcome and that all members are ministers. Our worship services are traditional in nature utilizing hymnals, piano and organ music. We also enjoy other types of music including gospel and more contemporary music. The Music Director will work in cooperation with all ministers, staff, and members of the church in carrying out the music ministries of FBC.
The Music Director’s primary focus is to lead and oversee the FBC Choirs. Specific responsibilities will include planning, rehearsing, preparing music and the Sanctuary Choir for the Sunday services, and providing opportunities for other choirs to participate in various worship services. FBC desires a Music Director with a Spiritual focus, who seeks to foster our choir members’ faith and fellowship. We desire a Music Director that understands the FBC music ministry is about relationships and enhancing worship, not a competitive choir. The Music Director should be collaborative, flexible, open-minded, and accepting. FBC is seeking someone who fosters a culture of celebration and praise of God through music.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In order to perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each of the essential duties and responsibilities listed satisfactorily:
· Select arrangements, hold regular rehearsals, prepare and direct the adult choir to participate in Sunday Services and other programs as determined by the pastor.
· Plan, lead, and direct special music for Christmas, Easter, and Homecoming.
· Maintain the music library by overseeing the purchasing, cataloging, distributing, and filing anthems and other music.
· Oversee the regular maintenance of organ, sanctuary and rehearsal pianos, and handbells by scheduling technicians.
· Strengthen choir membership by recruiting new members as opportunities arise and building fellowship among current members.
· Engage as many members of the church family as possible in the music ministry, including developing and supporting new choirs.
· Encourage and nurture skills of choir members.
· Maintain a social media presence for the music ministry.
· Arrange for a substitute for all planned absences.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
· Participate in the leadership of worship as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
· Provide support to other ministries and groups within the church with the Senior Pastor.
· As available, attend meetings of the Deacons, the staff, the Church Council, and assigned committees
· Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
QUALIFICATIONS: A successful candidate will have the following qualifications and/or abilities:
· Mature Christian committed to serving God and others
· Preferred bachelor’s degree in music and/or Music Education
· Preferred minimum of 5 years Music Director experience
· Experience working with children, youth, and senior adult choirs.
· Experience with handbells
· Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills are required to lead worship with ministers and members.
· Desire to maintain a program of self-improvement.
Pay: $15,000.00 - $20,000.00 per year
