Bismarck State College is seeking an engaging and student-focused Assistant TeachingProfessor of Music - Instrumental to join our team. This role is ideal for an educator who enjoys blending musical instruction, instrumentalensemble leadership, and mentorship to support student success.
What You'll Do
Bismarck State College is seekinga knowledgeable and motivated Assistant Teaching Professor of Music - Instrumental - to join our faculty. The successful candidate willsupport student success by directing ensembles, preparing music for BSC events, and recruiting students for performance ensembles.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Directing instrumental ensembles, including Band, Jazz Ensemble, andPep Band
- Preparing music for BSC events
- Recruiting students for performance ensembles
- May also include teachingcourses such as Music Theory I & II, Aural Skills I & II, Applied Lessons, Music Appreciation, and World Music
- Facilitating Stateand Regional music festivals
- Participation in professional organizations such as NDMEA
- Assessing students
- Committeework
- Coordination with ensemble instructors
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean and Academic DivisionDean

Required Qualifications:
- Appropriate music-related master's degree
- Demonstratedsuccessful experience with conducting concert bands or other large ensembles
- Documented successful experience with private musiclessons
- Documented successful experience with recruiting collegiate students
- Documented successful directing of the pepband
- Ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups and ability to work as a team member
- Excellent communication andinterpersonal skills
- Good working knowledge of computer software programs (i.e., Microsoft Office, email, electronic calendar -Outlook)
- Creative in using a variety of teaching resources, media, and instructional technologies
PreferredQualifications
- Earned doctorate (PhD or DMA)
- Experience with distance delivery of courses
- Collegeteaching experience
- Active member in a state organization such as NDMEA
- Experience with community and school outreach formusic
- Experience with a wide range of repertoire (i.e., classical, contemporary, multicultural, etc.)
- Experience withconcert planning, budgeting, and event coordination
