Who We Are
Maestro Music is a boutique online music studio built specifically for homeschool families. We're not a marketplace where anyone can sign up to teach. Every teacher on our roster has been personally vetted by our founder, who is a music educator himself. That means when you join Maestro, you're joining a small, serious team of professional musicians and educators who take themselves and their students seriously.
Teachers who work well with us can get more than a paycheck. We've written letters of recommendation, and paid teachers to contribute to our blog (with full authorship credit), share their musical and teaching expertise with our content team, create social media content, host masterclasses, and help review and onboard new teachers. We've even had teachers with strong video editing and design chops record their own asynchronous courses that they earn permanent royalties from.
Is This a Good Fit for Your Life?
The best Maestro teachers aren't necessarily looking for a full-time position. In most cases, they have a unique situation that makes flexible, remote, well-paying teaching work appealing. Does any of this sound like you?
- You're a performing or touring musician who can't commit to a fixed in-person schedule
- You travel frequently or spend time abroad, and want work that travels with you
- You're a grad student who wants part-time income alongside your studies
- You're a stay-at-home parent looking for professional work on your schedule
- You've been on TakeLessons, Outschool, or another platform and want something with more structure, better pay, or more student leads
- You're driving across town for in-person lessons, and the commute is eating into your earnings
- You have your own private studio and want to fill daytime or irregular slots (our homeschool families are often available during school hours)
During each enrollment rush (Aug and Jan), teachers who want a full studio can typically expect to get 10–15 student leads (but you can request fewer leads, if preferred).
What You'll Do
- Teach live, one-on-one online lessons via Zoom to students ranging from young beginners to more advanced high schoolers (and occasionally their parents, too)
- Keep your availability updated on our lesson platform (that's the bulk of your admin duties)
- Communicate proactively with students and our team
- Bring patience, adaptability, and a student-centered approach to every lesson
Must Have
- Bachelor's degree in music or a related field
- 2+ years of private teaching experience (in-person or online—online strongly preferred)
- Primary instrument: Piano
- A reliable internet connection and a professional setup for video lessons (an external camera will be required before your first lesson)
- US-based address (required for contractor payments)
Nice to Have
- Multi-instrumentalist (if you teach multiple instruments, mention it in your cover letter for “bonus points”)
- California residency or willingness to travel to California once. This allows you to complete a Livescan background check and work with our charter school families in CA
- Experience teaching homeschool students, neurodivergent learners, or mixed-age groups
- Advanced degree in music
Compensation
- $30/hour starting rate
- Performance-based raises
- Additional paid opportunities may be available for content, blog writing, onboarding support, and course creation
