About Us
Roots Nature & Leadership Academy is a small, nature-based private school in south Sarasota dedicated to inspiring curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning. Our students enjoy a rich educational experience that combines academics, the arts, outdoor learning, and hands-on exploration.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and engaging Part-Time Music Teacher to inspire our students and help cultivate a lifelong appreciation for music.
Position Schedule:
Fall Semester (September 8, 2026 – January 28, 2027)
- Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
- 1:45 PM – 2:45 PM
- Teaching students in Grades 3–8
- Instruction focuses on vocal music and foundational instrumental skills in piano, ukulele, guitar, and percussion, helping students develop musicianship and ensemble skills that can grow into a band-style experience
Spring Semester (February 2, 2027 – May 27, 2027)
- Tuesdays and Thursdays
- 1:45 PM – 2:45 PM
- Teaching students in Pre-K–Grade 2
- Instruction for these grades focuses on singing, rhythm, movement, and percussion to build foundational music skills in an age-appropriate and engaging way.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging music lessons for small groups of students (approximately 15 students per class)
- Foster a joyful and encouraging learning environment
- Teach foundational music skills
- Maintain positive classroom management and age-appropriate expectations
- Inspire confidence, creativity, and a love of music in students
- Lead one music showcase on Thursday, January 28th for Seedlings, Saplings, and Roots students.
- Collaborate with school staff to facilitate age appropriate curriculum and support student success
We're Looking for Someone Who:
- Has experience teaching music to children
- Demonstrates strong classroom management skills
- Brings a modern, engaging approach to music education
- Is energetic, positive, and dependable
- Has reliable transportation
- Enjoys inspiring young musicians and making learning fun
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching elementary and/or middle school students
- Music degree, music education background, or equivalent experience
- Experience leading choir, piano, ukulele, percussion, or other instrumental programs is a plus
