PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To provide worship leadership in the church in the area of music, so that the mission of the church may be fulfilled.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree with course work in music, including a study of vocal choral music (allowance of three years to achieve requirement)
Experience: Three years of experience in directing a music program; holding a paid position in a church similar in size to First United Methodist Church of Marion a strong plus; an audition with the choir is required

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Reports directly to the Pastor
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in developing and fulfilling the goals of the pastor, staff, and appropriate church committees
- Recruit and train volunteers for the music ministry of the church, including singing or playing musical instruments
- Direct the Psalter Choir in rehearsals and in worship services
- Develop and oversee other music ministries, including handbells a strong plus
- Assist the Pastor in selecting hymns and providing music for all worship services
- Provide music for special services (e.g., Christmas, Easter, community worship events)
- Coordinate service music with the organist/pianist
- Supply the music titles and composers to the church secretary for publication in the bulletin.
- Maintain the music library in the Psalter Choir room.
- Work with pianist/organist to oversee the upkeep and repair of the sanctuary organ and piano.
- Work with soloists, duets, trios, instrumentalists, etc.
- Have knowledge of sound system to function well with instrumentalists.
- Attend staff meetings and worship committee meetings.
The responsibilities identified above are not intended to be all-inclusive. There are numerous tasks and essential functions that are necessary for the successful completion of our mission. An employee may be assigned other related projects by the Pastor or the Staff-Parish Relations Committee as needed.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
· At will, part-time, approximately 12 hours per week.
· Schedule – Required workdays are Sunday (worship service), Wednesday (choir and handbell practice), and Messy Church (informal service held on 2nd Sunday of the month from 5:30 – 7:00 PM). Preparation time is at discretion of employee.
· Leave – The employee may request leave by notifying the Pastor at least seven (7) days in advance. It is up to the employee to arrange for a qualified substitute to lead worship or practice. The employee can use up to three paid Sundays and three paid Wednesdays per year. Additional time off will be negotiated with the Pastor and Staff Parish Committee.
