LEHIGH UNIVERSITY. The Department of Music invites applications for a non-tenure-track position as the Robert Cutler Endowed TeachingProfessor in Choral Arts, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027. This position is a renewable, fixed-term, non-tenure-track,full-time position. The initial term of appointment is 3 years.
Candidates must have earned a M.M. or D.M.A./Ph. D. in choralconducting or a closely related field by the date of employment. The successful candidate must have demonstrated conducting and classroomteaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level.
The Associate Director of Choral Activities will teach the equivalentof 3 courses per semester of choral ensembles, musicianship, ear training, and/or other music courses at the undergraduate level as needed.They will also oversee the administration of voice lessons within the music department. Conducting responsibilities are distributed asdetermined by the Director of Choral Activities according to the strengths of the Associate Director and needs of the choral area. Thesuccessful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a collaborative spirit, excellent musicianship, effective conducting and rehearsaltechnique, and a deep understanding of vocal pedagogy.
In close collaboration with the Director of Choral Activities, the AssociateDirector will contribute to the success of an established choral program through performances, recruitment, and administrative duties. Theywill conduct ensembles and teach singers and students who have a wide range of experience. The Associate Director of Choral Activities willparticipate in departmental, college, and university service, is expected to work with students towards capstone preparation, and fulfillother service duties such as advising, recruitment and committee work in the department as well as the College of Arts and Sciences. Thesuccessful candidate will also be expected to contribute to Lehigh's Principles of Our Equitable Community.
The Lehigh University'sMusic Department offers a B.A. in Music and a music minor. Students are able to pursue capstone experiences in all areas of music, includingperformance, composition, conducting, and musicology. A large portion of the Music Department is devoted to instrumental and vocal ensembleswhich serve non-majors and minors alongside students earning majors in music. Lehigh University Choral Arts consists of four ensembles,three auditioned choirs, one mixed, one treble, and one tenor/bass, and one large, non-auditioned, mixed choir that includes faculty, staff,community members alongside student singers. The choirs perform a wide variety of repertoire from composers of many backgrounds, includingnewly-commissioned works and major works with professional orchestras.
