Scope:
The Department of Performing Arts in the Getty College of Arts & Sciences at Ohio Northern University welcomes applicants for an Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre to direct the Musical Theatre program.
Principal Responsibilities
The successful candidate will teach courses in musical theatre performance and musical theatre history, guide the musical theatre showcase, and direct one mainstage musical each academic year. Responsibilities include mentoring musical theatre students, actively participating in faculty meetings, auditions, recruitment activities, and departmental service. Required Skills:
The successful candidate will demonstrate
- a firm command of the fundamentals of both acting technique and coaching acting through song;
- substantial knowledge of musical theatre history and repertory;
- experience in the professional musical theatre industry and the ability to aid students in their transition to the profession;
- excellent communication skills, the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and solve problems creatively and on time.
Minimum Qualifications:
A master’s degree in musical theatre or a related area is required. Candidates with an MFA or PhD are encouraged to apply. Candidates with directing experience and teaching at the professional studio/theatre or university are also encouraged to apply. Candidates with a master’s degree other than the MFA may be considered on the basis of professional experience.
