JOB SUMMARY:
The Executive Director (ED) will work in close association with the Board of Trustees, specifically the President, the Music Director/Conductor and TPO personnel to maintain an efficient day-to-day operation of the business of the Tuscarawas Philharmonic. The Executive Director will possess, or strive to attain, a general knowledge of music. Particularly those aspects of the subjects which are necessary in the performance of their duties.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop a timeline of staff and board deadlines pertaining to the production of a concert cycle and related collateral including such responsibilities but not limited to:
- Set and schedule dates with the Performing Arts Center of Kent State Tuscarawas in coordination with the Music Director/Conductor.
- Coordinate with the appropriate personnel at the Performing Arts Center the necessary stage set-up and requirements for each concert.
- Work with the Music Director and Associate Conductor to negotiate and finalize any contracts necessary for the engagement of guest artists.
- Arrange lodging necessary for guest artists and/or orchestra members along with any additional travel needs, if necessary.
- Support the Marketing committee and necessary vendors to implement the necessary promotional materials for each event of the season.
- In cooperation with the Board of Trustees, plan and implement sponsorship opportunities to businesses, organizations, and individuals for the upcoming concert season. The campaign should include solicitation of annual contributions plus the sale of season tickets with any mailings associated with these activities. Sponsorship opportunities may include concert, season, guest artist and event.
- Schedule room and attend monthly Board of Trustee meetings and any other special meetings, and prepare an executive director report.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of special fund-raising activities.
- Coordinate design of a season brochure.
- May need to attend rehearsals, or portions thereof, of the orchestra and choruses, as deemed necessary.
- Assist Board committees as necessary.
- Manage administrative tasks such as (mail, correspondence, bank deposits, etc.)
- Oversee TPO employees to ensure a well-organized season.
- Finally, the Executive Director will present a positive and professional image of the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Association to the community-at-large. The Executive Director will represent, or arrange representation for the TPO at local civic group meetings, Chamber of Commerce events, etc.
- Although above duties are the ultimate responsibility of the Executive Director, tasks may be delegated to other members of staff or members of the Board of Trustees, as appropriate. Other responsibilities may be added to the list as the outreach of the Association expands. All deletion or addition of responsibility will be in mutual agreement between the Board of Trustees and the Executive Director.
Qualifications
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience leading in a team-environment in order to meet objectives and deadlines in a timely and accurate fashion.
- An understanding of or a willingness to learn current issues facing small-to-medium sized orchestras.
- A passion for fund development, donor recruitment, and sustaining community relationships.
- A flair for public relations and audience development.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to persuasively communicate the importance of the Tuscarawas Philharmonic Orchestra in our community and beyond.
- Professional organizational skills including prompt communication, the use of Google Drive as an organizational tool, calendar management, and more.
