As a Middle School General Music Teacher, you will be responsible for teaching music classes to students in grades [4-8], creating a positive and engaging learning environment, and promoting a lifelong love for music. You will help students develop their understanding of music theory, history, and appreciation, while encouraging critical thinking and creativity. The Middle School General Music Teacher will also be a leader in our liturgy space from a music perspective.
Responsibilities:
· Plan and deliver engaging music lessons that cater to the developmental needs of middle school students, fostering creativity and musical growth.
· Teach a variety of music concepts, including music theory, history, appreciation, and basic performance techniques.
· Incorporate different musical genres, including classical, jazz, pop, and world music, to expose students to diverse musical traditions.
· Encourage students to express their ideas, thoughts, and feelings through music and deepen their understanding of how music shapes culture and society.
· Use technology and digital resources to enhance music instruction and learning.
· Provide individualized and group instruction to students of varying abilities and musical backgrounds.
· Develop and refine a sequential general music curriculum that builds upon prior learning each year, ensuring increasing depth and mastery of musical concepts.
· Fulfill assigned non-instructional duties, such as lunch, recess, and carline supervision, while promoting a safe and positive school environment.
· Plan and coordinate grade-level performances that showcase student growth, creativity, and collaboration while managing all logistical aspects.
· Design and teach an elective for grades 7 and 8 that encourages students to explore music in creative and meaningful ways.
· Actively participate as a member of the religion and performing arts departments.
· Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and encouraged to explore their musical interests.
· Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and school staff to support student development and school community.
· Maintain student records, including grades, attendance, and progress reports, in a timely and organized manner.
· Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices and stay current with trends in music education.
Liturgical Responsibilities:
· Play the piano at Mass, services, and sacramental services and celebrations.
· Collaborate with the music department to incorporate student participation in Mass.
· Prepare students for musical participation in Mass and services.
· Assist in coordinating a cross-divisional effort for participation for all-school Mass and all-school services.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Music, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
· Valid Ohio teaching license or certificate
· Strong knowledge of music theory, history, and appreciation.
· Experience teaching middle school-aged students, preferably in a general music setting.
· Ability to inspire and motivate students with diverse musical interests and abilities.
· Proficiency in teaching with a variety of instruments, including but not limited to piano, voice, guitar, and percussion.
· Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
· Ability to work collaboratively within a team and contribute to the school community.
· Experience with classroom management and creating a positive learning environment.
· A passion for music education and a dedication to student success.
