ST. JAMES METHODIST CHURCH DIRECTOR OF MUSIC - JOB DESCRIPTION
PURPOSE: To provide leadership in the area of music ministries.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Lead Pastor/ SPRC
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Oversee all music ministries of the church.
2. Cultivates, through-out the church, music (traditional, contemporary, vocal, instrumental) as being one of the most vital ways of expressing our faith and to bring pleasure to God.

- Monthly newsletter
- Bulletin Boards
- Church events focused around music such as concerts.
3. Establishes musical ministries (vocal, instrumental) that enable people to express their faith, grow in the spirit and bring glory to God.
- Make sure that each musical group’s ministries fulfill a purpose.
- Being connected with the whole congregation so that musical needs are met.
- Coordinate the varied groups’ rehearsals, leaders, and worship participation.
- Provides support and/or leadership to each music group (not necessarily direct each group)
- Candidate with interest in Bell Choir for special services.
4. Works with the Pastor/Worship Design Team in music selection and participation that will enhance the overall worship experience for all worship services.
- Music to be an element of worship – not a free-standing event.
5. Informs the church office by noon on Wednesday of each week of the musical selections for that week’s worship.
6. Along with the Lead Pastor and SPRC, provide annual evaluation to all paid musicians.
7. Staying attuned to musical trends (all styles) and new music publications and recordings.
8. For the area of Music Ministry, with the church’s vision and purpose in mind, set yearly goals and the continued evaluation of these goals.
9. Organizes and maintains the music library as well as other musical items that are property of the church.
10. Serves as a nonvoting member of the Vision/Ad. Board Team.
11. Performs any additional duties assigned by the Lead Pastor.
EVALUATION: Ministry objectives and performance reviews will be conducted annually by the
Senior Pastor in consultation with the Staff Parish Relations Committee.
HOURS: Approximately 12 hours a week
1. Sunday morning – 4 hours (8:00-12:00)
2. Rehearsals – 4 hours (Chancel Choir rehearsal – Wed. 7:30-9:00)
3. Office Hours (music selection, rehearsal prep., worship design team, etc.) – 4 hours
VACATION: Except for Christmas Eve and Holy Week, there shall be 2 weeks of paid vacation.
