Job DescriptionThe Music Therapy Program in the Department of Music at Austin Peay State University
seeks qualified applicants to join our Adjunct Instructor Pool. This pool will be used to fill
part-time, temporary teaching positions on an as-needed basis.
Adjunct instructors will teach undergraduate courses and/or provide clinical practicum
supervision in the music therapy program. Courses may include Class Guitar, Class
Voice, Introduction to Music Therapy, and others based on applicant's qualifications. All
courses and supervision will be offered in-person.
The Department of Music at Austin Peay State University, an accredited member of the
National Association of Schools of Music, enjoys a vital presence on campus, in the
Clarksville community, and in the region. The Department boasts a nationally recognized
and acoustically superior concert hall, along with outstanding performance, practice,
rehearsal, and studio spaces. The Department of Music is an integral member of the
Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts (CECA
https://apsu.edu/ceca/). A long established state-funded initiative, CECA is designed to enhance the cultural
environment of the university, community, and region through a diverse range of
imaginative arts experiences. The following degrees are offered: Bachelor of Music with
concentrations in Performance, Music Education, Composition, and Music Therapy;
Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in Music; Master of Music with concentrations
in Music Education, Performance, Collaborative Piano, Instrumental Conducting, and
Choral Conducting.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities - Accompany students to their clinical placements and provide practicum supervision.
This includes leading sessions, phasing students in to lead sessions, and providing
verbal/written feedback to students.
- Prepare and deliver course content in alignment with program standards.
- Maintain regular communication with students and program coordinator.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Knowledge of current clinical needs and trends to properly guide students in skill
development.
- Clinical Musicianship skills on guitar, piano, voice, and percussion.
- Ability to meet students where they are and adapt teaching/supervision style
accordingly.
Physical Requirements - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force
frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Ability to transport instruments to and from clinical sites.
Required Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's degree or equivalency in Music Therapy
- Current Board Certification
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- A background search will be required of the successful applicant
Preferred Qualifications:- Master's degree in Music Therapy or related field
- Clinical Supervision experience
- Higher education teaching experience
- 2-3 years of clinical experience
