Purpose
As part of St. Mark’s mission to ‘seek, share, and serve Jesus” this ministry supports the work of both paid staff and lay people at St. Mark’s UMC.
This ministry will:
· Provide support to the pastor, worship leaders, and other musicians in providing meaningful worship each week.
· Be sensitive to the needs and desires of the congregation in deepening their relationship with Jesus Christ through music.
- Demonstrate a growing faith; participate in the life of the church as available.
- Maintain a strict code of confidentiality in all relationships and work of the church.
- Exhibit a caring and professional manner in all contacts with the congregation and the community.
- Be supportive of the staff and work of St. Mark’s in all contacts with the congregation and community.
- Conduct regular rehearsals with the choir to prepare for weekly church services and special events.
- Choose and have prepared appropriate hymns, anthems, and other music pieces that align with the church's liturgical calendar, message, and vision for weekly worship as well as special services during Choir Season from September to May.
- Direct the choir during church services, including leading congregational singing, solos, and choral pieces.
- Recruit and train new choir members as needed and work to build a strong, cohesive team.
- Ensure the choir has all the resources they need, such as music scores, recordings, and practice materials.
- Foster a positive and supportive environment within the choir and work to build relationships between choir members and the broader church community.
- Be responsive to the likes and dislikes of the congregation in music selection.
- Submit Sunday selections for the Choir Anthem, to the Administrative Assistant in a timely manner for preparation of the bulletin.
Qualifications:• A bachelor’s degree in music, choral conducting, or a related field is stronglypreferred.• Previous experience directing a choir or working in a music ministry setting is required.• Excellent musicianship and conducting skills.• Strong leadership and organizational abilities.• Good communication and interpersonal skills.• A deep understanding of church music and its role in worship.• Familiarity with a variety of musical styles and genres.• The ability to work collaboratively with others and build relationships with choir members and the broader church community.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $500.00 - $800.00 per month
Expected hours: 5 – 7 per week
