The Music Department at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its Assistant/Associate Professor of Music-Piano/Collaborative Pianist position.
Duties:
- Manage and maintain an applied studio through active recruitment.
- Coordinate and coach piano students for performance and collaborative work.
- Oversee activities of piano students and student recitals; including juries, auditions, and other performance activities.
- Perform as collaborative pianist with large ensembles and solo & chamber groups in the JSU Department of Music and university functions.
- Oversee the B.M and B.M.E. piano degree curriculum/courses on the undergraduate and graduate level.
- Teach courses within the piano area as well as possibly some general music courses.
- Deliver instruction both in-person and online.
- Serve on and collaborate on juries, recitals, and auditions.
- Advise and supervise student activities such as competitions, conferences, festivals, outreach performances, and other events.
- Coordinate, host and recruit for the Annual Gladys P. Norris Piano Festival on the JSU campus.
- Work with area schools and community music programs.
- Maintain ongoing artistic and/or scholarly research agenda to include performances, grantsmanship, and publications.
- Appropriate departmental, college, and university service is required.
- Active affiliation and participation in professional organizations related to the discipline.
- Other instructional responsibilities determined by candidates' qualifications and departmental needs.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Music or Music Education with a specialization in Piano, Piano Pedagogy, or Collaborative Piano, along with commensurate professional experience as a pianist and educator in higher education required. Terminal Degree (DMA, PhD or DME) in music preferred.
- A minimum of three (3) years of collegiate teaching experience (preferred) with an active artistic performance profile at the local and national level.
- Ability to recruit and grow an energized piano studio.
- Experience with teaching class piano, keyboard skills classes, and applied piano/ private instruction. The ability to train collaborative pianists.
- Experience performing with large ensembles (choral and instrumental) and solo & chamber groups in collegiate and professional settings.
- Experience as a collaborative pianist in both professional and academic settings.
- Ability to advise music majors and minors.
- Distinction in artistic accomplishments is highly favorable.
- Evidence of collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, and local community.
