Job Summary
The Church Pianist will accompany the Chancel Choir for rehearsals and services, provide 2 piano offertories per month, play the hymns along with the organist, and prep the choir before services begin.
Support
The Pianist will support the traditional music and worship program of Central United Methodist Church.
Expectations
Work collaboratively with the Director of Traditional Music & Worship bringing creative expression into the traditional worship experience.
Essential Functions
- Accompany the Chancel Choir for all rehearsals, including, but not limited to: Wednesday night rehearsals, Monday night sectional rehearsals (in preparation for Christmas and Easter)
- Prepare the Choir Sunday mornings before the service begins
- Help accompany hymns during the service, as needed
- Provide 2 Offertories each month
- Be a substitute for playing service music on piano when the organist is unavailable
- May be called upon to play for funerals or weddings. The musician for a funeral will usually receive a gratuity from the family, and the musician receives a standard fee for weddings.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must have a high proficiency of piano performance
- Demonstrate a high proficiency of choral accompaniment
- Be a committed follower of Jesus Christ, seeking to know, love and serve God
- Be a team player with all the staff and clergy, especially with the Director of Traditional Music & Worship
- Exemplify the church’s values and uphold the staff policies
- Have a servant’s heart as an artist and a missional drive toward building community within the Traditional Music and Worship Ministry as well as Central UMC and the community
- Organ skills beneficial but not required
Supervision
The Church Pianist is Supervised by the Director of Traditional Music & Worship.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15,000.00 - $18,000.00 per year
Expected hours: 10 – 16 per week
