Position Summary:
Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre Voice, Tenure Track, Full Time, Academic Year. The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of successful college or professional teaching. Ability to teach both "legit" and "contemporary" musical theatre vocal styles, and working knowledge of the American musical theatre canon. Special consideration will be given to candidates with any or all of (a) professional experience as a musical theatre performer, (b) piano skills, and/or © current industry connections. Also required is a demonstrated commitment to student mentoring and development suitable for a professional training program offering the B.F.A. degree in Musical Theatre. The successful candidate should have research interests appropriate to a tenure-track appointment, and will also demonstrate willingness to bring to this environment professional, innovative, and collegial contributions in all areas: teaching, creative research, and service.
Responsibilities include teaching voice (singing) to undergraduate Musical Theatre concentration students, maintaining an active professional profile, keeping current with stylistic and pedagogical developments in the field, and participation in appropriate departmental and university-wide activities. Additional duties depend on the candidate's expertise and department needs, but could include teaching courses such as Music Skills for Musical Theatre, Audition Prep, and Acting Through Song, as well as production responsibilities (as vocal coach, accompanist, or music director, for example) in the department's season. All tenure-track appointees are expected to maintain a creative research agenda in their area(s) of expertise. Service will include assigned committee work, academic advising of M.F.A. and B.F.A. students, and collaborating with the faculty to support the department's goals.
Minimum Qualifications:
Earned graduate degree in music or theatre or Earned Bachelor degree and equivalent professional experience.
