DescriptionThe Vincennes University Performing Arts Department is seeking applicants for an Adjunct Piano Faculty position at the Vincennes campus beginning the fall 2025-2026 academic year. The successful candidate will be expected to provide collegiate level study in class piano and applied piano lessons. The candidate will also be expected to be able to serve as an accompanist/collaborator.
Minimum QualificationsCandidates need a Master's degree in Music (with major emphasis in Piano), or a Master's degree in a related field with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Music (with major emphasis in Piano), or a Bachelor's Degree in Music (with major emphasis in Piano) with a minimum of five years of relevant professional performance activity.
Job Description/Responsibilities:- Teach class piano to freshman and sophomore students.
- Teach applied piano lessons (music major, pre-major, and elective levels) to freshmen and sophomore students.
- Serve as accompanist/collaborator.
- Prepare candidate's applied piano students for student recitals, masterclasses, midterm juried assessments, and end of semester juries.
- Organize all necessary details and preparations for recitals or other performances associated with the candidate's applied students.
- Participate in departmental recruitment efforts and activities as needed.
- Provide a quality learning experience for all students in accordance with their needs and abilities while maintaining the basic integrity of course standards and objectives.
- Teach and maintain courses in accordance with university and departmental policies and procedures.
- Contribute to departmental assessment and continuous improvement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Excellent oral and written communication.
* Excellent organizational skills.
* Extensive knowledge of the subject area the individual will be teaching. The candidate is expected to have extensive knowledge and training in piano. Additional knowledge and experience in jazz (and/or rock, pop, and other playing styles) is encouraged.
* Ability to work with a variety of learning styles and skill levels.
* Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics and challenges of community college students.
* Experience teaching in higher education (particularly community college experience) is preferred but not required.
* Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
* Ability to work in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment.
