Southern Wesleyan University invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor to teach Elementary Music Methods within the Division of Music and Fine Arts. This course prepares undergraduate music education majors to design, implement, and assess effective general music instruction for children in grades K-6. The successful candidate will bring a strong background in elementary music pedagogy, a passion for teaching, and a commitment to nurturing future music educators.
Primary Responsibilities
- Teach one section of Elementary Music Methods in accordance with departmental standards and course outcomes.
- Provide instruction in foundational topics such as child development, lesson planning, sequencing, standards-based curriculum design, classroom management, and the integration of singing, movement, instruments, and creative activities.
- Model effective pedagogical strategies, including Kodály, Orff Schulwerk, Dalcroze, and other recognized approaches to elementary music education.
- Develop course materials such as syllabi, assignments, assessments, and rubrics.
- Evaluate student work and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Support students in practicum and micro-teaching experiences.
- Maintain regular communication with students and participate in required departmental meetings or trainings.

Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Music Education or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience teaching elementary general music in a K-6 classroom setting.
- Knowledge of current trends, methodologies, and best practices in music education.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Additional Information
This is a part-time appointment dependent on enrollment and departmental needs. Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
