Scope of Job:The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley seeks applications for a Lecturer I in Applied String Bass and Music Theory/Ear Training to join the School of Music beginning Fall 2026. Primary responsibilities include teaching Applied String Bass, Music Theory and Ear Training courses, and additional courses aligned with the candidate's experience and expertise, as assigned by the Director of the School of Music.
This position requires close collaboration with School of Music faculty and includes instructional responsibilities on both the Brownsville and Edinburg campuses. The successful candidate will carry the standard academic teaching load for a three-year appointment at the Lecturer I rank, equivalent to a 5/5 teaching load.

Minimum Qualifications:MM, or equivalent in music, from an accredited university. Applicants will be considered if the degree will be complete by July 1, 2026.
Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:Experience performing and teaching String Bass and Music Theory/Ear Training.
Preferred Qualification:DMA. A record of successful teaching.
Salary: Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience. All positions are subject to budget approval.

Additional Information:UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.

demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based
test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of
English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the
