Duties
- Develop and implement a comprehensive liturgical music program that aligns with the church’s spiritual mission and liturgical calendar, funerals, weddings and special parish celebrations.
- Lead rehearsals, coordinate performances, and direct choirs, ensembles, and soloists to deliver engaging musical offerings during worship services.
- Plan school liturgies along with the designated school personnel for weekday school Masses and special school celebrations.
- Mentor and train choir members and volunteer musicians, fostering their skills through teaching, guidance, and encouragement.
- Oversee the maintenance of musical instruments, sound equipment, and related resources to ensure high-quality sound production.
- Order new music as needed and work with the business manager as needed on the music budget.
- Communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and congregation members to promote a welcoming environment for all musicians and attendees.
- Attend staff and liturgy committee meetings.
- Schedule cantors for Masses and other celebrations when needed.
- Collaborate with the pastor on any additional responsibilities as needed
Experience
- Proven experience in leading liturgical or church music programs with demonstrated success in directing choirs or ensembles.
- Knowledge of Roman Catholic liturgy or the willingness to receive ongoing formation.
- Must comply with the Archdiocese of Indianapolis Code of Conduct.
- Strong background in teaching vocal techniques, music theory, and liturgical traditions to diverse age groups.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams, foster collaboration, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Exceptional communication skills for clear instruction, team coordination, and community engagement.
- Experience mentoring and working with volunteers and developing training programs that enhance musical proficiency.
